Building a Community Centre in Sweetwaters

The construction of a new community centre located at the heart of the Sweetwaters’ community outside Pietersmaritzburg is nearly complete. This centre will significantly extend the Hope Centre’s currently limited capabilities and provide a long-term, sustainable solution for more orphaned children.

Once complete, the Centre will give vulnerable community members access to clean water, food, health, and education and, more importantly, provide an environment that is safe from robbery, abuse, rape and harm. It will also be used as an essential base for the distribution of food and medicine and will include:

  • A refuge for 100 children

  • A food hall

  • A medical clinic

  • Classrooms

  • A Moses room for abandoned babies

  • Surrounding land to farm

After the plans were drawn up, older teenagers from the Sweetwaters’ community were taught construction skills so they could help with the building work, which is now near completion. The centre is already being used with a monthly Fun Day for 500 children in the community. The children do a fun activity, such as painting, and are provided with sandwiches and juice.

Thanks to your Emergency Appeal donations, over £2,300 went towards the centre’s penultimate phase of construction, which includes plumbing and electricity.

Please help us to build a better life for these AIDS orphans.
