Ruth's Poem

'Arrival'

ruthmain

Ruth volunteered for three months at the Hope Centre and was inspired to write a poem about her first impressions.

Playful tugs on my top, fingers through my hair, giggles at my large suitcase
‘Mama you have sweetie in there?’
At contrast distant observers, cautious, nervous, not yet ready to interact
That’s cool, I have time, three months in fact.
As Cebo takes me by the hand and draws me into a game, my aches and pains Strains,
From the long aeroplane Journey disappear,
From fear/sheer Excitement,
As we board his imaginary toy train… Set
A jumbo jet
All before me now, story books, puzzles galore More
Touching, introductions, overwhelmed by instructions as I am shown around the Hope Centre Building
Feeling like the new kid in town,
With 21 beautiful playmates, I’m excited to get to know
And show that although we
Are so different
There are many things that make us the same,
In plain I feel honoured to be here.
